Fly That Helicopter!

I began the layout of my game, Fly That Helicopter!, by thinking what kind of game I wanted  to create and how many levels I would want.  I worked through my problems by asking for help from teachers and peers and searching on scratch how to make a maze game so I could see where I might have gone wrong.  I tested my game by playing it every time I added something to see if it worked.  My game achieved most of the things that I wanted it to, but I wished I could have figured out how to make my score go down every time the helicopter hit a black wall.  The thing that I am most proud of in my game is that I was able to get the levels to work.  The one thing that I am disappointed about is that I did not have a lot of levels.

My Game Plan

The purpose of my game is to fly the helicopter while avoiding the black walls.  When you land the white space you are brought to the next level.  I will use a helicopter for my sprite.  For my background, I will use a plain blue surface as if you were flying the helicopter in the sky, with black walls and white landing spaces.  If you touch a black wall you will lose 10 points and each time you reach the next level you will gain 20 points.  You win by finishing each level.  When someones win a level they move on to the next level.  The next level will be harder than the last.  I will increase the difficulty on the next level by adding more black walls and making the pathway to the landing space longer and more difficult to reach.  I will accomplish this task by making 5 backdrops, for my five different levels, and each level I will draw more black walls, thus making the route more complicated.

Review of Alphabet Games

Jamie's game worked great, there were no problems.  She made it so that when you clicked on the sprite it said a statement and then when you clicked on the corresponding letter, the sprite changed costumes.  I did something different in my game; if you clicked on the sprite or hit the letter, the sprite would say something and then change costume.  Christian's alphabet game also worked really well.  He did the same thing as me for the most part.  However, when the sprite was clicked or the corresponding key was pressed, the sprite said something and changed costumes at the same time and then eventually switched back to it's original costume (the corresponding letter).

Fish Chomp Starter Project with Scoring

A variable is something that you add to a project to make it more complicated.  I would explain what variables are to young learners by saying that they are things you add to something to change it and make it more complicated.

Alphabet

Here is my alphabet project!  This game teachers kids their alphabet!  Click the letter or type the letter on the keyboard and the sprite will say something and switch costumes.  To make the letters return to their letter form, click on the green flag.
